does it bother you as much as it bothers me that in the media and posts on here it's a big piece of news when a straight person "comes out as an ally for same sex marriage" and it's like their heroism is celebrated? like having a straight actor/public figure say "I support gay marriage" doesn't fucking add more representation of queer individuals in popular entertainment. idk man maybe it's just my dash but im tired of seeing the stone cold photoset get notes.

I think that may be more in your tumblr circle than it is in mine because the group of people I follow is very critical of straight allies (rightfully so) but I completely agree with you in that it is a problem that being a supporter of the lgbt+ community is scene as a big deal instead of a basic requirement for being a decent person

This.

A racist woman is not a feminist; she doesn’t care about helping women, just the women who look like her and can buy the same things she can.

A transphobic woman is not a feminist; she is overly concerned with policing the bodies and expressions of others.

A woman against reproductive rights — to use bell hook’s own example, and an issue close to your heart — is not a feminist; she prioritizes her dogma or her disgust over the bodies of others.

An ableist woman is not a feminist; she holds some Platonic ideal of what a physically or mentally “whole” person should be and tries to force the world to fit inside it.
